Benefits of Plexiglass

You’re close to purchasing your framed artwork and it’s time to make a decision: using plexiglass or tempered glass. There are many benefits of plexiglass as well as regular glass. We always suggest working with your art source with what your goals are and what you’re looking for. If you don’t have that kind of relationship, not a problem. We’ve put together some helpful tips on the benefits of plexiglass for you to make a decision. Don’t forget to take a look at our latest project on our Facebook and Instagram pages!

People in the fine art industry generally have strong opinions about both plexiglass and regular glass. There are benefits and minuses to each, and there are two sides to every story after all. Let us break it down for you.

Benefits of Plexiglass

Non-glare Ultra-violet Plexiglass has all the ingredients to keep your artwork safe and sound. UV coatings are used to protect your art from sun rays that are damaging to prints and paintings. Another benefit to plexiglass is one of our favorites, and that it provides a glare-free view.

Glass as an Alternative

Unlike plexiglass, glass is naturally derived from calcium, sodium and potassium atoms. It also doesn’t absorb water and won’t warp if anything gets wet. Regular glass also is much harder to scratch and is not easy to spot.

One of the biggest factors in deciding which to use is mobility. Will this move from place to place a lot? How often do you move? Glass as we all know is extremely delicate and can easily shatter. Plexiglass on the other hand, is much more durable and can stand against plenty of (responsible) moves. At the end of the day, we will work with our clients to ensure that they choose a material that they are confident with. There are benefits in using plexiglass and glass, so we understand if there may be confusion. We like to show examples of both to really paint the picture to the client. (No pun intended!)
