How to Hang and Install Fine Art

The piece of art you’ve been eyeing has finally arrived to your doorsteps. Now that you have it, you must hang it. It may seem overwhelming and for those without the proper material or experience, it is. Whether you’re hanging art in your home, office or at a gallery – the steps to hanging it properly are the same. Art Design Resources has hung fine art in almost any place you can think of. We encourage everyone to take a look at our gallery for some inspiration. We’ve put together a few guidelines on how to hang and install fine art below.

Have the Right Materials

The tools you absolutely need before you start anything include a hammer, pencil, level, measuring tape and wall hooks. Most people think hammering a nail to the wall is all that it takes. Depending on the size and weight of your piece, it will always be in better hands to hang and install with special wall hooks than a nail.

Types of Hardware

Concrete anchors: We use these hooks when hanging art against concrete or brick walls. Any stone or concrete wall requires concrete anchors. Although this can be done by a handyman, we recommend consulting with professionals with this type of surface.
Drywall anchors: Like we’ve mentioned before, depending on the weight and size of your piece, you’ll want to use drywall anchors to ensure your piece will stay up in a sturdy position.
Other types of hardware you may need are d-rings or strap anchors and cleats. If you decide to hang your fine art yourself, definitely do your research on each type of hardware.

Consulting Professionals

Like we’ve mentioned throughout this post, nine times out of ten you will want to consult with art consultants to hang your fine art. At Art Design Resources, we hang fine art regularly and it would be our pleasure to help hang your new piece of art. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see our latest projects!
